Kyptec Automation® -4K and 8K Line Scan Vision Systems for Continuous Web and Surface Inspection

Continuous production creates inspection challenges that are difficult to solve with isolated snapshots. Fabric, paper, printed film, steel strip, battery foil and other materials may move at high speed while defects can appear anywhere across the full width. A line scan camera captures one line at a time and combines successive lines into a complete image. The performance of that system depends strongly on the 8K line scan lens or 4K line scan lens placed in front of the sensor, together with stable lighting, motion synchronization and camera connectivity.

The growth of EV manufacturing has increased demand for battery electrode inspection. Coated electrodes and separator materials may require continuous inspection for streaks, pinholes, particles, edge position and coating uniformity. Kyptec Automation® 4K and 8K line scan lens options can support suitable battery inspection designs. SWIR lenses may also be relevant when material or moisture contrast beyond visible imaging is required, depending on the process and feasibility results.

A high bandwidth line scan camera may connect through Camera Link. Choosing the correct Camera Link cable for line scan camera requires confirmation of camera configuration, connector, frame grabber and length. Some line scan systems use GigE Vision or faster Ethernet variants. A reliable GigE cable for industrial camera should provide the required category, shielding, connector security and length. Visible imaging is not always sufficient for continuous materials. SWIR line scan inspection can help detect moisture, material variation or features in silicon and certain products that are difficult to see in visible light. Kyptec Automation® SWIR lenses can be integrated with compatible area scan or line scan SWIR cameras, depending on sensor format and application. What lighting is required for line scan inspection? The answer depends on whether the defect affects colour, shape, texture, reflection or transmission. Bright field, dark field and backlight arrangements produce different contrast. Kyptec Automation® optics should be selected after the illumination geometry and working distance are considered, because aperture and focus requirements are directly connected to available light.

Can a normal area scan lens be used on a line scan camera? It may physically fit in some cases, but it may not cover the long sensor or maintain the required edge performance. A dedicated line scan lens from Kyptec Automation® is a safer choice for high resolution web inspection when matched to sensor length and magnification.
